The Spring Equinox falls on the 23rd
September in the southern hemisphere, it is one of the two days of the
year when day and night are equal. We can feel summer diminishing and
there’s just a hint of cooler air in the mornings and evenings. This is
the perfect time of year to do clean house physically and mentally, a
great way to do this is to try a ‘green’ diet for 7 days to clean our
bodies and minds of toxins that built up from the summer season.
Yogi Bhajan recommended a green diet as a detox cleanse, which comprised of eating only green things, primarily vegetables, with an emphasis on leafy greens for calcium, seaweed for minerals, and avocado for healthy fats; with a few fruits (green apples, green grapes, kiwi, or pears) and pistachios and mung beans to enrich the diet and keep the blood sugars balanced.
This diet allows the blood to become more alkaline, decreases cortisone and other stress factors in the tissues, adds moisture to the colon and purifies the liver, pancreas, and intestines.
Spring is a time when your body is the most restless. Internally, spring is a time for self discovery by harvesting and developing who you are, reflecting on the seeds you sowed so far this year, and strengthening the character behind your intentions. On a physical level spring is a great time of year to prepare your body for its time of expansion, summer. By cleansing toxins from the body and doing meditations to clear toxic thoughts, we can clean out all the debris collected over the past year and one can fortify and strengthen the immune and nervous system to guard against viral and bacterial environmental influences that are common as the seasons change.
The Kundalini Yoga Kriya I want to share with you this week is called ‘Let the Liver Live’ and was first taught by Yogi Bhajan on January 30, 1985.
