The form of yoga I'll be teaching at my Blissful Bali Ubud Kundalini Yoga Retreat is called Kundalini Yoga (as taught by Yogi Bhajan). It is a dynamic style
of yoga that utilises all aspects of yogic tradition including asana (postures)
pranayama (breathing techniques), mudra (hand positions), mantra (sacred
sound), drishti (eye focus) and meditation.
It is a Raj Yog, encompassing the eight imbs of yoga into a singuar
practice. ‘Kundalini’ literally means ‘the
curl of the lock of hair of the beloved’ and is translated as our creative
potential, our sexual energy or the flow of energy and consciousness that
exists within us that enables us to merge or ‘yoke’ the body, mind and spirit.
I often get asked what makes Kundalini Yoga different from
other styles of yoga, sometimes I reply that it’s the purity of the yoga that
makes it special. In Kundalini Yoga we
teach sets of exercises called kriyas and as teachers we commit to maintaining
the integrity of the yoga kriyas, teaching them exactly as they have been
taught for thousands of years. These
kriyas were created by yogic masters and every kriya has been designed to work
into a certain area of the body as well as perfectly balance the chakra
system.
Or I might tell them that I practiced other forms of yoga
for many years before finding Kundalini Yoga and whilst I experienced many
benefits from my yoga practice, when I started doing Kundalini Yoga I was blown
away by difference. Kundalini Yoga is a
powerful tool for transformation, the teaching of this sacred science and
technology was veiled in secrecy, passed along verbally from master to chosen
disciple.
I always end up finishing up my explanation of Kundalini
Yoga by saying that the only way to understand the value of Kundalini Yoga is
to experience it for yourself. It’s
magic is beyond words, it’s focus is on self-awareness and delivering an
experience of your highest consciousness.
It can connect You with the Original You, elevate the spirit and open
you to your own Intuitive Infinity.
